How to make a shelf with fruit drawers?
Materials and tools to make this shelf:
- Sandpaper for wood (one coarse and one fine).
- Water-based stain for wood.
- Varnish (if it is dyed, we avoid dyeing).
- Metal or wooden reinforcements / wooden board.
- Self-Drilling Screws (Recommended) and Nuts.
Alternative materials depending on the design:
- Rotating wheels.
- Hanging washers.
Process:
- We sand all the drawers inside and out, first with the coarse sandpaper to remove all the imperfections, and then with the fine sandpaper to smooth all the surfaces and not be rough. We remove all the nails that may have come out.
- Then we stain and varnish all the drawers, each one separately.
- To assemble the structure so that it does not disassemble, we can do 2 things:
- Buy a wooden board that will be the “bottom” of the shelf (we measure the total surface of the drawers), and we nail the bases of all the drawers into it.
- We get metal reinforcements in the hardware store, which consist of a plate with 4 holes:
There are also others that are not bent but are straight, and have only 2 perforations, which we will use on the outside joining 2 drawers. We can replace the badges with wood, but it is less resistant.
There must be at least 2 joints between one drawer and another. We make the holes in the boxes where we will put the reinforcements, we screw them with the screws and their nuts.
