Making aloe vera gel couldn’t be easier if you have a mature plant in your home and you decide to put this simple recipe into practice to take advantage of all its benefits.

How to make aloe vera gel at home?

So, first what you have to do is cut some leaves of the aloe vera plant and in a few steps, we will have our aloe vera gel ready to be used.

Try to choose the leaves that are closer to the ground, because then the plant will not be badly damaged and can continue to grow. Then let the cut leaves stand upright for a few minutes to allow the dark resin to drain out. This part is important since the resin can be a bit irritating to the skin if it gets together with the aloe vera gel you are making.

This is how the resin that comes out of the plant looks like, you can guide yourself with the image to identify it:

After the resin has drained, wash the leaves and begin to peel off the thick skin of the aloe vera with a knife, leaving the gel clear. If you have very long and thick aloe vera, cut it into smaller pieces first to make the peel and remove the aloe vera gel more easily.

Preparation of aloe vera gel.

Place the gel in a blender and add a few drops of grapefruit seed extract or vitamin C powder, vitamin E oil, or a little essential oil to help preserve the aloe vera gel for a longer period.

Then mix everything, pour into a clean glass jar and you have some fresh aloe vera gel, which will keep for several months in the refrigerator. It doesn’t matter that you have a bit of foam on top at first, it will set in later.
